TOK Exhibition

What is a TOK Exhibition?

The TOK exhibition is a 950 word paper that is based on one of the IA prompts. It includes three objects with typed commentaries that demonstrate how this question appears in the world around us.

What should be included?

  • Core Theme (Knowledge and the Knower, Knowledge and Language, Knowledge and Technology)
  • 2-3 Core Theme Characteristics (These come from your TOK vocabulary sheet. Reference our TOK vocab page for more information).
  • Core theme connection to the prompt
  • Object Description
  • Real World Context
  • Justification for including the object
  • Connection statement to the prompt

What should the objects be?

  • The objects should be specifc. Nothing generic like a tree! You can have up to one personal item and two outside items. However, you do not need to include a personal item. Some examples of specifc items are:
  • Your EE
  • Your history textbook (make sure to reference the specific title)
  •  A historical landmark
  • A song

Some objects to avoid:

  • A smartphone
  • A tennis racket (unless it's a specific player's)
  • 2 very similar objects (like the bible and a cross necklace)

What is included in the exhibition word count?

Included:

  • The written commentaries

Does not include:

  • Any text on the objects themselves
  • Acknowledgements or references
  • The title
  • The object labels

An outline of a successful TOK exhibition

TItle: TOK Exhibition: Write your 2 core theme Characteristics

Introduction: This includes your TOK prompt which you will write in quotations and bold. Introduce your core theme and core theme characteristics. Include how your core them and the characteristics connect to your prompt. This should be an answer to your question WITHOUT referencing or mentioning your objects.

Object 1: write what your object is

Insert a picture of your object (approximately 3x5)

Commentary: include object description, real world context, justification for including the object, a link for how this object responds to the prompt. Repeat as many times as needed while staying in word count.

Write down your other 2 objects in a similar format with their respective commentaries.
