There are many options when it comes to EE subjects, however, there are some that usually result in a greater chance of success: History and English. Depending on your IB elective, psychology and art EEs are also viable subjects, although they may be slightly more complicated than the previous recommendations. Be careful when choosing your EE. Science and math EEs usually require more attention to detail and extra steps, so choosing subjects in these areas is generally not recommended.
Take this advice with a grain of salt and don't be discouraged to write on a topic you love. Remember it's always better to write about something you're passionate about. You know your skills best!
The score required to pass changes slightly every year. Typically you need 7-15 points to pass. Guess what that means... if you have solid reflections and perfect formatting then there's a good chance you'll pass! Ensure your EE is size 12, double-spaced, and in Times New Roman, Calibri, or Arial.
The critical thinking in your EE is worth 12/34 points making it worth the most points. In order to ensure your analysis is strong make sure to connect different sources you've used to provide an answer to your research question. Try to offer alternative viewpoints or explain why the author wrote a specific piece of evidence. Mentioning the author's name and using a reporting verb is a good way to set up analysis. A good piece of analysis may follow this pattern: [author's name] believes [point author is attempting to make] because [state why the author believes this]
The EE rubric is split into 5 parts. Focus and Method, Knowledge and Understanding, Critical Thinking (Analysis), Presentation(Formatting), and Engagement (Reflections). Collectively, the EE is worth 34 points. Individual categories point breakdown can be seen below.
