A commentary given about 2 texts focusing on one global issue and literary devices and authors choices that the author used to enhance certain themes.

You can give context to the texts you chose but it is importance you are not merely summarizing the text.

The commentary must be 10 minutes and the teacher will ask questions for 5 minutes.

It is important you have a good grasp and understanding on the texts you chose!

You are provided 2 texts that could be a fictional prose, non-fiction prose, dramatic plays, or poems.

Duration: 2 hour 15 minutes for the two essays (if SL, it is 1 hour 15 minutes for one guided analysis)

There is a guiding question provided and you have to explain how and why the author used certain choices and devices to enhance a larger central theme.

It is important you include a deep analysis of why the author used the language and techniques and its effect on the audience.

There are 4 prompts provided and you have to choose one.

Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes

You have connect 2 texts you have read to support the prompt given.

You can redefine terms in the prompt that are ambiguous to support the texts you used.

Analyze text 1 and 2 to support the prompt and analyze the connection between the texts and how they are different.

You cannot use the same text you used for the HL essay.

It is 1200-1500 word essay about a text you studied during your IB English course. You choose a line of inquiry to study that will be invested and answered in your essay.

The line of inquiry must fall under the 7 concepts: Identity, Culture (How are setting, institution, or community represented), Creativity, Communication, Transformation, Perspective, Representation (How are themes, attitudes, or concepts represented)

Ask how and why the author made choices and styles to investigate your line of inquiry.

The scope of your essay must not be too broad or too specific.
